Do your little ones put up a fight when it comes to brushing and flossing their teeth? Don’t feel like you’re alone! Many parents struggle to get their kids to embrace their at-home smile routine. Here are some tips and tricks to help your kids build better dental habits!

Clean Your Teeth Together!

Kids love copying their guardians. Brush and floss your teeth alongside your little one. They will see you enjoying it and will show more interest in learning the process if you are doing it with them.

Make It a Fun Game

There are so many fun games you can create out of brushing and flossing. Have your kid look for “tooth monsters” as they floss and then throw a two-minute toothbrush dance party so that they brush their teeth for the full amount of time!

Reward Your Little One

One of the most important parts of an oral hygiene regimen is doing it consistently! To keep your child on track with brushing day and night, keep a chart next to the sink. Every time they brush their teeth, they can pick out a sticker to put on the chart. When they fill up a whole week, or two, they can pick a prize, get extra playtime, or get dessert!

Bring Your Child in for Regular Checkups

Kids can sometimes experience dental fear and anxiety. One of the best ways to start them on the right path of oral health is to get them acquainted with their dentist. The sooner kids become comfortable and confident when visiting the dentist, the easier it will be for them to maintain a lifetime of great oral health. Your child’s dental team can also help encourage and educate them on caring for their teeth.
